What do you do at Joyride?
During the summer, I bartend a few nights a week. During the other months of the year, you’ll find me as an emergency fill in, or brewing one of my victory beers. I earned brewing privileges by winning the annual Joyride Fantasy Football league two years in a row, where I beat bar manager Billy in the championship game, twice.

Where are you from, and when did you move to Colorado?
I moved almost ten years ago from the Chicago area.

Why did you move to Colorado?
There were no teaching jobs in Chicago-Wisconsin, and the recession was beginning to settle in. Colorado was the land of milk and honey, and I quickly found a job teaching at the JeffCo expulsion school. My brother Dave (the Brewmaster) already lived here, and I was sold by the mountains.

What did you do before Joyride?
I am a full time History Teacher at a local high school. You probably see my students around the brewery (the ones that are of age, of course).

What’s your favorite thing about working at Joyride?
Fun atmosphere, quirky guests, great co-workers, and the fact that it’s the family business.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?
I’m earning my MA in History, teaching young minds, hiking, skiing, or attempting to be active.

What’s your favorite type of music/band?
80s/90s punk rock. My Pandora also has stations for beer barrel polka, 50s rockabilly, David Bowie, Desmond Dekker, delta blues, and 20s Jazz.

This would change based on season, but right now New Glarus’ Wisconsin Belgian Red.

The first batch of Berliner Weisse, which was called Peachwood Aged. Or Belgian Strong Dark…Side of the Moon.

Favorite Joyride beer currently on tap?
The Baltic Porter, it is one of my victory beers. However, next week it will probably be the Gosé, which will be another one of my victory beers. If neither are on, probably the Joyride Double IPA.

You’re stuck on a desert island and can only drink one style of beer for the rest of your life. What is it?
Hefeweizen. As my grandpa says, it has B vitamins!

Favorite place you’ve ever visited?
London, on my honeymoon. You can get lost in any neighborhood, and stumble on really amazing things.

When can people normally find you at Joyride?
Summer, special events, and at the bar during the school year.
