BeerTender Tuesday #14: Billy

What do you do at Joyride?
I do a little of this and a little of that, but I guess you can say I’m the bar manager for Joyride.

Where are you from, and when did you move to Colorado?
I’m originally from Crystal Lake, Illinois. A town northwest of Chicago. I’ve been coming out to Colorado for years to visit friends, but finally stuck with it 4 years ago.

Why did you move to Colorado?

I moved to Colorado for a change. I was able to do that with the help of Brewmaster Bergen and his wife Missy. I had been coming out to visit them since college, and then he told me he was thinking about opening a brewery with Grant and Brent. I decided they would need someone to drink all that beer, so I put everything in a truck and moved to Colorado.

What did you do before Joyride?
There was no life before Joyride.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Joyride?
My favorite thing is tough because I enjoy coming to Joyride every day. Since I have to pick something, I will say seeing how much the place has changed since construction began and how much excitement it brings to the community.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?
When I do have free time, I’m usually hanging out with friends or trying to get some sleep. I love the outdoors, from backpacking to fishing. I also enjoy taking brew-vacations, going someplace new and trying out the breweries.

What’s your favorite type of music/band?
I listen to just about everything from country to heavy metal. I usually rock out to Slipknot in the mornings when I’m the opening beertender, which promptly gets turned off at when we open (right Dave?).Favorite beer section:

What’s your all time favorite beer?
All time favorite is Sam Adams Oktoberfest.Favorite beer Joyride has ever made?
I’m going to go back to the owner’s homebrew days, and say Bergen’s Oktoberfest. Which someday he might let me make with him, if I can only kick his brother’s butt in fantasy football. I’m shaking my fist at Tom right now!

Favorite Joyride beer currently on tap?
Favorite beer on tap right now is tough since everyone keeps drinking them all, but I will go with the Joyride Double IPA.

You’re stuck on a desert island and can only drink one style of beer for the rest of your life. What is it?

Favorite place you’ve ever visited?
Favorite place I have ever visited would be 2 years ago when I got the chance to backpack Yellowstone NP with a couple of buddies. We got to see a bear swimming and a wolf eating a deer.

When can people normally find you at Joyride?
You can find me at Joyride just about everyday at just about anytime of the day.
